Welcome to AnomalousPhenomena.com! AnomalousPhenomena.com is a highly categorized in-depth informational resource for all terms related to Anomalous Phenomena, Anomalistics, Anomalous Phenomenon, Anomalies and Alternative Science. About us.

Anomalistics is the use of scientific methods to evaluate anomalies (phenomena that fall outside of current understanding), with the aim of finding a rational explanation. The term itself was coined in 1973 by Drew University anthropologist Roger W. Wescott, who defined it as being "...serious and systematic study of all phenomena that fail to fit the picture of reality provided for us by common sense or by the established sciences."

Wescott credited journalist and researcher Charles Hoy Fort as being the creator of anomalistics as a field of research, and he named biologist Ivan T. Sanderson and Sourcebook Project compiler William R. Corliss as being instrumental in expanding anomalistics to introduce a more conventional perspective into the field.

Henry Bauer, emeritus professor of Science Studies at Virginia Tech, writes that anomalistics is "a politically correct term for the study of bizarre claims," while David J. Hess of the Department of Science and Technology Studies at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute describes it as being "the scientific study of anomalies defined as claims of phenomena not generally accepted by the bulk of the scientific community."

Anomalistics covers several sub-disciplines, including ufology and cryptozoology. Scientifically trained anomalists include ufologists J. Allen Hynek and Carl Sagan, Christopher Chacon, cryptozoologist Bernard Heuvelmans, and CSICOP founder Paul Kurtz.

Athiests, skeptics: If "god" "revealed" himself with "signs" and "miracles" would you then believe in him?
Q. I sure wouldn't, at least not until the phenomena had been properly examined and the claimant's abilities observed and tested, and then I would require MUCH more evidence that the claimant was indeed the deity of Hebrew mythology and not a different deity or even a regular person with anomalous qualities. Even then I wouldn't take it for granted that everything written about him was true, I would assume most if not all of the myth was false and merely loosely based on this being. So why doesn't god just go ahead and make with the miracles, then he might actually be able to start making a positive difference in the world. True skeptics STILL wouldn't believe so the only "people of faith" would be gullible people (you know, like… [cont.]

The universe appears to be infinite but anomalous. Then how can parallel universes exist?
Q. A parallel universe would appear to require the existence of supernatural phenomena that we cannot comprehend with our limited sensory perception. If that's the case, are we then trapped in a finite existence through sheer cosmic accident?
Asked by steve e - Sun Sep 30 00:04:36 2007 - Astronomy & Space - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Quite right. We would not be able to detect or perceive parallel universes, nor would they be able to detect or perceive ours. If they exist, they will always be a theoretical reality, not an objective one. But superstring theory postulates the existence of other universes (a multiverse) outside our own universe. Its not so much a supernatural phenomenon the way we define that as it is "extra-natural" in that its beyond our ordinary experience but possible in advanced physics.
